Revs roll over Rapids to snap losing skid

Jul 31, 2014 - 1:40 AM Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New England Revolution finally brought an end to their eight-match losing skid on Wednesday, notching a 3-0 win over the Colorado Rapids at Gillette Stadium.

Lee Nguyen had a hand in all three of New England's goals as his shot caused a Drew Moor own goal in the 10th minute before he scored on a lovely free kick 15 minutes from time. Nguyen then turned provider to set up Kelyn Rowe's first goal of the campaign three minutes later.

After a miserable run of form, the Revs got a bit of a good break after 10 minutes when Charlie Davies dropped a ball off for Nguyen inside the penalty area and his shot deflected off Moor and ended up in the back of the net.

Diego Fagundez showed a nice piece of skill shortly before halftime when he brought down a ball inside the box and beat a defender before firing over the net from 10 yards.

The Rapids tried to equalize in the 69th minute when Dillon Serna and Edson Buddle combined to set up a good chance for Dillon Powers, who was denied by a nice diving stop from goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth.

Colorado was reduced to 10 men in the 74th when Thomas Piermayr fouled Steve Neumann to collect his second yellow card. And Nguyen wasted little time in taking advantage as he sent a free kick perfectly into the upper left corner of the net.

Nguyen then turned provider as he found Rowe inside the area, allowing the young midfielder to lash a shot past goalkeeper Clint Irwin.
