Chivas USA sneaks past 'Quakes in season finale

Oct 26, 2014 - 10:50 PM Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chivas USA closed its season in style on Sunday as Felix Borja's first-half goal held up as the winning strike, giving the Goats a 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes at StubHub Center.

It's been a difficult season for both teams, as Chivas was looking to end the campaign with a win following a 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake last week, while San Jose was coming off a scoreless draw against the playoff-bound Vancouver Whitecaps.

It was a cagey opening 30 minutes, but the Goats found the lone tally in the 33rd minute as talisman Erick Torres did well to elude his man on the left flank and cut inside toward goal.

Torres let a curling strike go that smashed the right post and stayed out, but Borja was there to clean up the rebound for his third goal of the campaign.

San Jose had the better of possession throughout the 90 minutes, but couldn't do much with it and were shut out for the fourth consecutive match.

Chivas USA finishes the season in seventh place in the West with 34 points, while San Jose closes the campaign on the bottom of the conference with 30 points.
