Davies lifts Revs to fourth straight win
Sep 8, 2014 - 1:03 AM Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Charlie Davies' second-half goal held up as the difference on Sunday as the New England Revolution continued a fine run of form with a 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium.Diego Fagundez struck in the first half and Davies hit for the winner on the hour mark to help the Revs claim a fourth straight win in league play and remain in third place in the Eastern Conference with 39 points.
Sanna Nyassi bagged the only tally for Chicago in the 28th minute, but the Fire couldn't hold the lead and suffered their seventh defeat of the season to remain in ninth place in the East.
It was the visitors that opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Quincy Amarikwa got free down the left flank and served a great cross into the area where Nyassi, who easily nodded it past New England goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth.
But the Revs claimed the equalizer four minutes prior to the intermission as Fagundez coasted toward the far post unmarked an easily nodded home a cross from Lee Nguyen to send the sides into the break on level terms.
The hosts then snagged the lead with 30 minutes to play as Davies did well to beat the Fire offside trap and get in behind courtesy of a well-played ball from Jermaine Jones and slide it past Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson into the bottom left corner.
