Agudelo powers Revs past RSL

Apr 26, 2015 - 1:35 AM Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Juan Agudelo scored a late first-half goal and added an assist on Saturday as the New England Revolution eased to a 4-0 victory over Real Salt Lake at Gillette Stadium.

After a slow start to the season which saw the 2014 MLS Cup finalists go winless in their opening three matches, the Revs have righted the ship, having gone unbeaten in their last four matches heading into Saturday.

The home side dominated the opening minutes of the match, creating numerous scoring opportunities and keeping most of the possession before finding the first goal of the night in the 39th minute.

Midfielder Chris Tierney did well to cut inside on the left side of the pitch to beat his mark before uncorking and well-struck bending effort that snuck inside the far post past RSL goalkeeper Jeff Attinella.

The Revs doubled the lead two minutes prior to the break when Charlie Davies got in behind the RSL defense and let a strike go that was stopped by Attinella, but he left the rebound in front of the net and Agudelo was in perfect position to knock it home.

The Revs made it 3-0 five minutes into the second half when Charlie Davies got on the end of a cross from Scott Caldwell and nodded it home, and Caldwell got into the scoring mood with six minutes to play when he fired home his first career goal in Major League Soccer.

The Revs cruised through the final few minutes to take an emphatic victory and climb to first place in the Eastern Conference with 14 points.
