SKC aim to continue hot form against FC Dallas

May 28, 2015 - 8:03 PM Kansas City, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Sporting Kansas City will aim to keep its run of positive form going on Friday when the club welcomes FC Dallas to Sporting Park.

Sporting enters Friday's clash riding a six-match unbeaten streak and is coming off a pair of positive results with a 4-2 home win over the New England Revolution, and scoreless draw away from home last week against Seattle Sounders FC.

Sporting KC carved out the first quality chance of the night in the ninth minute when Kriztian Nemeth found himself alone at the back post following a long throw-in by Matt Besler, but Nemeth's half-volleyed effort went straight into the arms of Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei.

Lamar Neagle responded with a chance for Seattle in the 32nd minute as he got on the end of a well-placed cross from Gonzalo Pineda, but directed his header just wide of the far post.

After the break, Sporting's best chance came in the 55th minute as Jimmy Medranda found himself in acres of space in the middle of the park. He took a couple dribbles and had a go from outside the box, but it bounced wide of the left post.

Hoping to nick a goal on a set piece, Sporting manager Peter Vermes sent U.S. international Graham Zusi on as a substitute in the 77th minute.

Seattle countered with the fresh legs of forward Darwin Jones six minutes from time, but neither side could find a late winner and settled for a share of the spoils.

"As much as we've been snake-bitten at this place over the years, no doubt [this felt good]," said Vermes. "At the same time, to come in here and to make as many changes as we've had, the number of injuries that we've had -- at that point, we had 16 players on the roster for tonight. We ended the game with three first-round draft picks from this year, two foreign players that we brought in and another two players that we brought in from there as well. So a lot of changes for our group and it was a tremendous point for us tonight thats for sure."

FC Dallas, meanwhile, will be looking for a bounce-back effort after a surprising 2-1 loss to the Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo last week.

The home-standing Impact had the better of the play early on and things swung in their momentum in the 25th minute when Andres Romero was hacked down in the penalty area by FC Dallas midfielder Moises Hernandez.

Piatti stepped to the spot and dispatched it into the net with ease for his second goal of the season.

The hosts doubled the lead five minutes into the second half with some clever offensive play as Piatti laid it back to the on-rushing McInerney, who lashed it into the bottom right corner from the top of the box, leaving FC Dallas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy with no chance for a save.

FC Dallas pulled one back with 13 minutes to play as defender Matt Hedges got on the end of a corner kick from Mauro Diaz and nodded it home to make things interesting late on.

"We never lost our heads and continued to look for goals," FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja said of his team's late rally. "The way we played the last 20 minutes, I thought was very encouraging. They played with everything they had."
