Di Matteo becomes permanent Chelsea manager
Jun 13, 2012 - 8:13 PM London, England (Sports Network) - Chelsea confirmed on Wednesday that Roberto Di Matteo has signed a two-year contract to become the permanent manager at the club.Di Matteo took over the Blues as interim boss in March after the departure of Andre Villas-Boas, and he led the club to both the Champions League and FA Cup titles.
Chelsea's league form was less impressive with the team finishing the campaign in sixth place.
However, the fact that the Italian delivered the first Champions League title in the club's history had to weigh heavily with owner Roman Abramovich.
"Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce that Roberto Di Matteo has been appointed manager and first-team coach on a permanent basis," read a statement from Chelsea. "The Italian returned to Stamford Bridge today following his holiday to finalize a two-year contract."
