Barton fined by QPR and stripped of captaincy

Jun 25, 2012 - 2:47 PM London, England (Sports Network) - QPR fined midfielder Joey Barton six weeks' wages and stripped him of the club captaincy after an internal investigation into his red card against Manchester City on the final day of the season.

Barton has agreed that QPR will have the right to terminate his contract with another serious disciplinary infraction, while he will also miss QPR's tour of Asia in July as part of the punishment.

The 29-year-old was sent off after he elbowed City's Carlos Tevez, and he received a 12-game suspension from the FA as he kicked Sergio Aguero and attempted to head butt Vincent Kompany before leaving the field.

QPR chief executive Philip Beard told the club's official website: "It was important that we took our time to make sure we came to the correct decision, which I believe we have achieved. "Joey's behavior, which led to his red card at Manchester City, and his subsequent actions were completely unacceptable and we have made our feelings on this matter known to him."
