Arrieta earns MLS Player of the Week honor

Jul 30, 2012 - 6:38 PM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Columbus Crew forward Jairo Arrieta was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 21 on Monday.

The Costa Rican scored both goals for the Crew in a 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City, accounting for the first two goals of Arrieta's MLS career.

Columbus fell behind to an early goal from Sporting, but Arrieta equalized in the 17th minute after getting on the other end of a pass from Josh Williams.

Arrieta then scored the winning goal for his side in the 34th minute when he cut out a poor pass from Sporting's Graham Zusi and beat goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen.

The MLS Player of the Week award is selected each week by the North American Soccer Reporters. The group consists of members of online, print, television, radio media.
