Ajax agrees to deal with midfielder Poulsen
Aug 23, 2012 - 5:12 PM Amsterdam, Netherlands (Sports Network) - Ajax agreed to a two-year deal with Denmark midfielder Christian Poulsen on Thursday.Poulsen, 32, will join Ajax on a free transfer, pending a medical and proper paperwork. He last played for Evian in France, but his contract expired at the end of last season.
"We're very happy that he's chosen to come to play with Ajax, because he could have gone to several other clubs in Europe," Ajax director of football affairs Marc Overmars said. "Christian Poulsen is the kind of midfielder who corrects and keeps things sharp.
"He's a leader, both on and off the field. And we can definitely use that, given our young group."
Capped 92 times for Denmark since his debut in 2001, Poulsen has experience in the four best European leagues. He has played at Juventus (Italy), Liverpool (England), Schalke (Germany) and Sevilla (Spain).
