Galaxy crush Chivas in SuperClasico

Apr 6, 2014 - 9:02 PM Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Galaxy rolled to a 3-0 win over Chivas USA on Sunday at the StubHub Center to give the club its first victory of the 2014 campaign.

The Galaxy started the season with back-to-back matches against Real Salt Lake, earning one point from the two games.

But on Sunday, Bruce Arena's team dominated its SuperClasico rival to claim an emphatic three points.

First-half goals from Robbie Keane and Stefan Ishizaki put the Galaxy into a commanding position, while Baggio Husidic added a third goal in the 56th minute to put the result beyond reach.

Chivas won its opening match of the season but has now claimed only two points from its last four contests.

It was one-way traffic for much of the match with the Galaxy getting the better of the play.

However, they had to wait until the 37th minute to unlock the Chivas defense as a headed pass from Dan Gargan was bundled over the goal line by Keane, who just beat goalkeeper Dan Kennedy to the ball.

Five minutes later, the Galaxy doubled its lead with Juninho playing a well- weighted through ball into the path of Ishizaki, who finished off the move with a clever chip over Kennedy that landed inside the far post.

Keane nearly scored again early in the second half, but his effort was cleared off the line by Chivas defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste.

The pressure continued and the Galaxy found a third goal in the 56th minute with a nice sequence of one-touch passing that resulted in a first-time finish for Husidic.
