Surging DCU, L.A. meet at StubHub Center

Aug 26, 2014 - 8:48 PM Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Two clubs coming off of back-to-back wins are set to square off at the StubHub Center on Wednesday as the Los Angeles Galaxy will host D.C. United.

After falling to the Columbus Crew in a 4-1 defeat, the Galaxy's struggles looked set to continue when they found themselves trailing the Colorado Rapids, 3-1, at halftime of their meeting at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday.

But a strong second-half showing allowed Los Angeles to storm back and collect three points from a 4-3 victory.

Bruce Arena's men followed the result with a stout performance in a 2-0 defeat of Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, a win that lifts the Galaxy to within five points of first-place Seattle Sounders FC.

"I think it's a very good win for our team," Arena said. "Thought it was a great team effort collectively on both sides of the ball. We could have gotten more goals but that is all part of the game. We are really pleased with the three points."

The Galaxy entered Saturday's clash having conceded seven goals in their last two games, so recording a clean sheet for the first time since July 28 was a welcomed treat.

"Sometimes we have a tendency to be a little lackadaisical and turn off. And when we do that, not surprisingly we give up goals; we have bounces go against us and when we do things the right way, the bounces go for us," said Landon Donovan. "So to some extent, there is karma involved and there is doing things the right way. And when you do that, you get rewarded."

D.C. enters Wednesday clash at the StubHub Center on the back of a sublime victory at Sporting Kansas City.

United thrashed SKC, 3-0, at Sporting Park to climb atop the Eastern Conference and cap a fantastic run since the start of July that has seen the club take 18 points from a possible 24.

"The job is certainly not done," said DCU midfielder Davy Arnaud. "We still have tough games coming up. We still have to keep grinding away and keep doing the same things. We've been preaching that all year.

"It's not just game to game, but within the game, you get the feeling in the group even up 3-0 with 10 minutes left guys are still saying, 'Let's grind, let's get it done.' It's a great mentality to have."

Both L.A. and D.C. have climbed into the race for the MLS Supporters' Shield, so Arnaud is expecting a tough clash on Saturday.

"We have another really tough game. They (L.A.) have quality. We knew this week was going to be a very tough week," said Arnaud. "We were going to have to rely on a lot of different players, which I think is a good thing, and I think we have the squad to do that."
