Errani rolls into Palermo quarters
Jul 11, 2012 - 9:18 PM Palermo, Italy (Sports Network) - Top-seeded French Open runner-up Sara Errani eased into the quarterfinals at the $220,000 Italiacom Open.The 2008 champion and 2009 Palermo runner-up Errani routed Austrian Patricia Mayr-Achleitner 6-3, 6-2 in second-round action on the red clay at Country Time Club.
Up next for Errani will be Romanian Alexandra Cadantu, who doused seventh- seeded Frenchwoman Alize Cornet 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 on Day 3.
In other second-round action, Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu bested Spaniard Lourdes Dominguez Lino 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 and Spanish qualifier Estrella Cabeza Candela downed Italian wild card Maria Elena Camerin 7-6 (7-3), 7-5. Begu will battle Cabeza Candela in Friday's quarterfinals.
A final opening-round match saw eighth-seeded Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova dismiss Spaniard Silvia Soler-Espinosa 7-5, 7-6 (7-3). The match was suspended because of darkness on Tuesday.
