Liberty take down Sun

Aug 9, 2014 - 1:53 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Tina Charles scored 15 points to go along with 14 rebounds to lead the New York Liberty to a 71-66 win over the Connecticut Sun.

Avery Warley-Talbert also tallied a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards for New York, which has won two of three. Sugar Rodgers added 12 points off the bench.

Katie Douglas paced all scorers with 26 points in the setback, while Alex Bentley contributed 14 points for the Sun.

New York trailed by two entering the fourth quarter, but regained the lead after Anna Cruz's three-point play. Douglas answered at the other end with a three-point play of her own to tie the game at 53-53.

Swin Cash converted a layup later less than a minute later, then made two free throws to extend New York's lead to four. Connecticut cut the deficit to one on a Kelsey Bone layup with five minutes to play but Cash made 1-of-2 from the line and Cappie Pondexter hit a jumper as the hosts held on for the win.
