WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Janel McCarville scored 18 points and Cathrine Kraayeveld added 15 as the New York Liberty hung on for an exciting 73-72 victory over the Washington Mystics on Thursday night.
Shameka Christon netted 12 points for the Liberty (14-18), who shot 50 percent (28-of-56) from the field, including 7-of-19 from the arc. But their hot shooting almost was for naught.
New York took the lead on two free throws by Christon with 9.8 seconds left. But Washington had one last chance to secure the victory on the game's final possession, but Alana Beard misfired on a potential game-winning 12-footer as time expired.
McCarville shot 8-of-11 from the field, and Kraayeveld was 6-of-10, including 2-of-4 on 3-pointers. Christon 4-of-9 from the floor, nailing 1-of-2 from 3-point range and dishing out five assists.
DeLisha Milton-Jones scored 21 points and Beard added 19 for the Mystics (15-18), who shot 42 percent (27-of-64).
