Maric stays with Tigers in AFL
Oct 5, 2016 - 1:58 AM Veteran Richmond ruckman Ivan Maric has signed a one-year AFL contract extension, ending speculation about his future. There had been speculation Maric could move to another club in a playing and coaching role.
Maric only played three senior games this season, with a back injury delaying his start and Shaun Hampson then taking over as Richmond's first-choice ruckman.
The 30-year-old has played 157 games with Adelaide and the Tigers.
"After a personally testing year, I took time to consider my options," Maric told the club website.
"But ultimately the friendships and connections I have with my teammates make Richmond my home, and where I belong.
"I believe I am capable of playing good football at AFL level, and will continue to show guidance and leadership on and off the field."
Tigers official Dan Richardson said they had been in talks with Maric for several weeks and are pleased the ruckman decided to stay.
"Ivan is a fierce competitor and gives his all in every training session and game he plays, and his teammates thrive off that," Richardson said.
"He's also a great leader and positive role model, not just for his teammates, but everyone at the club, and we look forward to seeing more of that in 2017."
