Magpies return from AFL drug bans
Dec 12, 2016 - 3:21 AM Lachlan Keeffe has made a striking first impression as he and Collingwood teammate Josh Thomas returned from their AFL doping bans.Keeffe looked in good shape on Monday and proved it by finishing second in a club 2km time trial.
Thomas, who has worked as a personal trainer during his ban, was not far behind him.
Only a small group, mainly rookies and players returning from injury, took part in the test.
Keeffe and Thomas were allowed to return to club training two months before their two-year bans officially end.
They tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol in February, 2015.
Collingwood retained them, accepting their explanation that they did not deliberately take clenbuterol.
They said the substance must have been in a party drug they took before they were tested.
"It's good to be back - it's been a long time, obviously," Thomas told reporters.
"So I'm just looking forward to getting in and meeting everyone that I haven't met and getting stuck into training.
"I can't really say too much at the moment, because the ban doesn't end for another two months."
Keeffe said his main priority now that he is back at the club is "just try to get a kick.
"I was pretty confident in getting back - I'm just looking forward to catching up with the fellas," he added.
Keeffe is on Collingwood's primary list, while Thomas is in the rookie category.
Also on Monday, star recruit Daniel Wells did some light training as he recovers from a calf muscle injury.
And Geoff Walsh was back at the club, returning as Collingwood's football manager.
