Lions AFL ruckman Smith felled by stingray
Jan 2, 2017 - 2:40 AM Young Brisbane AFL ruckman Archie Smith has been hospitalised after stepping on a stingray at Nobby Beach on the Gold Coast.The 21-year-old needed an ambulance on New Year's Eve after suffering a stingray barb to the foot, the AFL website is reporting.
Smith posted to social media a photo of his cut and badly bruised foot, which had several stitches.
"Safe to say the stingray won this round," the Lions' tall tweeted.
He told his Twitter followers he expected to recover in "only a couple of weeks".
Smith played three games in his 2016 debut season.
