Saints' Armitage hurt for AFL Eagles clash
Mar 29, 2017 - 6:21 AM St Kilda's AFL season of great expectations continues to hit early snags. Now midfielder David Armitage is out of Saturday night's clash with West Coast in Perth because of a groin injury.
The 28-year-old pulled up sore from Saturday's round-one loss to Melbourne.
Their football manager Jamie Cox said they expect the onballer will only miss one or two matches.
"It's not one we think is too serious and he should only miss a week or two," Cox said.
After a solid start, St Kilda faded badly against the Demons and lost by 30 points
Their former captain Nick Riewoldt dodged a bullet in the last quarter when he hyper-extended a knee.
The initial fears were that Riewoldt would need a reconstruction, but scans showed he only suffered bone bruising.
St Kilda also expect him to return in the next few weeks.
While Riewoldt and Armitage are significant losses, they could regain key forward Paddy McCartin and veteran onballer Leigh Montagna.
McCartin was a late withdrawal from the Melbourne match because of hamstring soreness and Montagna has been out of action because of a calf muscle injury.
Montagna and McCartin came through a VFL practice match last Sunday without any problems.
