Giants speak to feisty AFL stars
Apr 26, 2017 - 4:54 AM Greater Western Sydney have spoken to their feisty All-Australian AFL stars Toby Greene and Heath Shaw about their on-field behaviour and controlling their aggression.Half forward Greene was reported for an alleged head butt on Sydney's Isaac Heeney last Saturday, but the match review panel deemed there was insufficient force to warrant a charge.
The incident occurred the round after Green was fined $1,000 for striking Port Adelaide's Dan Houston.
Half back Shaw, who is renowned for his on-field verballing, apologised on Sunday morning after an on-field microphone caught him calling Sydney's Tom Papley a f-----g retard.
Cameron noted the top teams of recent times had played on the edge and said he loved the competitiveness of his players, but they needed to make sure they kept their emotions in check.
"We've had a good chat with Toby over the last couple of weeks, " Cameron said.
"He's got to make sure that in the moment he's got to be able to control that aggression.
."The one thing I will say is that I love the way he goes about it, he's such a competitor.
"But he does know that he's got to make sure that when that tipping point comes he's just got to be able to take a deep breath and move on to the next contest."
Cameron applauded Shaw for quickly apologising for his sledge of Papley.
"We've had a really good chat," Cameron said.
"Heath knows that at times that competitiveness can take him over the edge.
"He was genuinely really upset about it. Heath is knockabout and he'll joke around about things, but he was genuinely remorseful about what happened on Saturday night.
'He was the first to get on the front foot and say he stepped over the line, but we're really happy with the way he's gone about it and we move on."
The Giants will go into their first Friday game without co-captain and key defender Phil Davis, who suffered a minor hamstring injury at training on Tuesday.
"He just felt a little bit tight so we think it's only going to be one week," Cameron said.
He nominated Harry Himmelberg and Tim Mohr as players under consideration to fill the spot.
