Rohan cleared after sickening AFL injury
Apr 30, 2017 - 3:50 AM Sydney forward Gary Rohan has been cleared to leave hospital a day after his head hit the ground heavily following a spectacular collision in his team's AFL loss to Carlton. While obviously sore, Rohan was cleared of any structural damage and he thanked fans on social media for their support.
Rohan flew for a mark in the third quarter of Saturday's match at the MCG, but he toppled over in the clash with Carlton defender Sam Rowe.
The head and neck of the injury-plagued Swan took the full force of the impact as he crashed to the ground.
Teammate Dan Hannebery said it was tough to watch footage of Rohan's concussion.
"He messaged me back before ... he's going to fly back to Sydney today, but he's okay and he's walking around," Hannebery said.
Rohan lay motionless for several minutes because of the concussion.
Unusually, the MCG's motorised stretcher was on the ground even before play was stopped.
Rohan was alert in the rooms and he was then taken by ambulance to Epworth Hospital for an overnight stay.
"He was taken to hospital where he had precautionary scans and was cleared of any structural damage, but was confirmed to have suffered a concussion," the Swans said in a statement.
It is unclear how long the injury will keep Rohan out of the action, but the severity of the impact would suggest he will not play in Sunday's game against Brisbane.
Rohan was in good spirits as he recovered in hospital.
"Thanks everyone for the well wishes - scans came back all clear, just got a sore head, neck and back," Rohan posted on Instagram.
