GWS face yet another AFL injury setback
May 20, 2017 - 11:02 AM Greater Western Sydney face the prospect of losing yet another key player to injury, with Rory Lobb sidelined for most of the second half of Saturday's AFL thriller.Lobb was crunched by Richmond midfielder Dustin Martin in a first-quarter marking contest at Spotless Stadium.
Restricted for the rest of the match, the ruck-forward will be a doubtful starter for GWS's round-10 clash with West Coast in Perth.
"Someone fell on him last week - his groin was a bit sore. The exact same thing happened today," GWS coach Leon Cameron said of Lobb.
"He just couldn't run so, 10 minutes into the third quarter, the message was he couldn't come back on.
"We'll see how he goes, but that's two weeks in a row (Lobb hasn't been fully fit).
"So that will be a concern for next week, whether he gets up."
The expansion club's depth has been severely tested this year.
Stephen Coniglio, Devon Smith, Ryan Griffen, Brett Deledio, Nick Haynes, Matt Buntine, Adam Kennedy, Jacob Hopper and Tendai Mzungu are all unavailable because of long-term setbacks.
Teenager Harry Perryman became GWS's third debutant of the season on Saturday, coming up with a clutch play when he denied RIchmond's Shai Bolton a match-winning goal.
Cameron paid tribute to Perryman, Daniel Lloyd, Matt de Boer and Sam Reid for stepping up amid the injury crisis.
"They're having little moments throughout games that are helping us win and that's exactly what you want," he said.
"We've just got to keep putting 22 players out there each week."
Cameron also showered praise on rebounding defender Nathan Wilson.
"It was probably Nathan's best game for the footy club. He defended really well," he said.
"He was probably most of the reason why we stayed in the game."
