Injured Pies trio out of Bombers AFL clash

Jun 6, 2017 - 9:40 AM Collingwood have been dealt a major injury blow, with star trio Jamie Elliott, Daniel Wells and Tyson Goldsack ruled out for their Queen Birthday AFL clash with Melbourne.

All three will miss Monday's MCG blockbuster after suffering injuries during the Pies' fighting win over Fremantle.

Wells has suffered a "medium-term" calf injury, with his return date to be determined once he undergoes further scans.

The 32-year-old's troublesome calves have restricted him to just six games since joining the Pies during the off-season on a three-year deal.

He had played 243 games with the Kangaroos before switching to Collingwood as a free agent.

Veteran fullback Goldsack has been diagnosed with a cracked scapula in his right shoulder, having played out the game against the Dockers.

"It was a really brave performance to continue on for most of the game," Collingwood football boss Geoff Walsh said on Tuesday.

"While it is cracked, there's little or no separation, so that's good news. Again, after the bye, we will assess how quickly that has healed and his range of movement and his ability to function through pain or what sort of level of pain."

Small forward Elliott will wear a moon boot for the rest of the week, with his injured ankle to be re-assessed ahead of next week's bye.

The 24-year-old missed all of last year with a back injury and didn't play his first game this season until round four due to a pre-season ankle complaint.

"It felt a little bit worse," Elliott told the Seven Network of his latest ankle injury.

"It happened the same way ... it kind of got rolled then landed on but, until we get the scans, we won't know.

"It is frustrating but I've had this injury before. It's not going to be much and I'll hopefully be back to my best."

The Pies will also monitor on-baller Levi Greenwood, who will undergo a fitness test after suffering a corked calf during the Fremantle game.
