Cockatoo one of four Cats in new AFL deals
Jun 22, 2017 - 10:33 AM Geelong have secured Nakia Cockatoo for a further two AFL seasons, the explosive forward one of four players re-signed on Thursday by the club.Sam Menegola and James Parsons have agreed to new three-year deals with the Cats and Brandan Parfitt has accepted a one-year contract extension.
"Sam, Nakia, James and Brandan have all had different journeys to get to where they are, but their level of resilience, commitment and professionalism remains alike," Geelong's general manager of football Steve Hocking said.
"It's exciting to see four of our promising talents recommit to the club.
"We see a bright future for them here at Geelong."
Cockatoo, the Cats' first-round selection in the 2014 draft, has become a fan favourite at Simonds Stadium in his 30 senior games since his debut in round one, 2015.
Pafitt, the 26th overall selection at last year's draft, made his debut in round one this season and played six games before suffering a serious hamstring injury.
He is expected to resume in coming weeks.
Parsons, elevated off the rookie list to debut in round three, has played eight games this season.
He copped a two-game suspension for elbowing Hawthorn's Luke Hodge in the head in their Easter Monday clash.
Menegola, who was suspended for one match for a dangerous tackle on Hodge in the same game, has made 17 senior appearances in two seasons for the Cats after stints with the Hawks and Fremantle.
