Crows coach hails captain Taylor Walker
Jul 7, 2017 - 5:31 PM Adelaide coach Don Pyke has praised the leadership of captain Taylor Walker in his side's 59-point win over the Western Bulldogs.Walker and his attacking partner in crime Josh Jenkins combined for seven majors in the Crows' 16.8 (104) to 5.15 (45) victory against the reigning premiers at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.
It was a surprising display by the home side's tall forwards considering the slippery conditions.
"I was really proud of the playing group tonight," Pyke said.
"I thought the captain was front and centre.
"I thought his impact on the game for pretty much the whole night was substantial, so it was a fantastic captain's and leader's game."
Walker will come under scrutiny following a heavy bump on Norm Smith Medallist Jason Johannisen midway through the third term, which floored him into the goal post.
The Crows skipper went to Johannisen to check on his welfare, but the Bulldogs defender left the ground and was in the hands of the doctors for a short period of time.
Adelaide's victory was a strong response after the league-leaders were challenged and forced to scrape through with an "ugly" 12-point win against Carlton last week.
The Crows' second half, featuring a stretch of 10 unanswered goals, impressed Pyke.
"That's the evolution, that's how the group is developing and the lessons leaned and one of them was our ability to respond when challenged," he said.
"Last time we played against Hawthorn here, we didn't have a great second half.
"Tonight we were able to turn that around and that's part of learning."
