Crows may delay Sloane test until game day
Jul 17, 2017 - 2:40 AM Adelaide could delay a decision on star onballer Rory Sloane's fitness until the day of their looming AFL blockbuster against Geelong.Sloane was concussed during the Crows' win against Melbourne and is in doubt for Friday night's top-of-the-table clash against the Cats.
Sloane will undergo concussion tests throughout the week and Adelaide assistant coach James Podsiadly says a final test could be held on Friday morning.
"When you get concussed there is always doubt whether it's an eight-day break or a 10-day break," Podsiadly told reporters on Monday.
"Our medical staff are pretty good at going through the protocol and if he gets through that and they're confident, we will play him."
The ladder-leading Crows were also sweating on results of scans on Monday on the injured left hamstring of defender Jake Lever, who missed the start of the season because of a similar injury.
Lever didn't complete the game against the Demons in Darwin on Saturday night because of the ailment.
"He just experienced some tightness in that hammy that he has had some issues with in the past," Podsiadly said.
"So from a coaching perspective and our fitness staff perspective it was more a precautionary thing, so we will how he pulls up in the next couple of days."
The Crows haven't beaten the second-placed Cats in their past five encounters but Podsiadly said the past would count for nothing on Friday night.
"We are playing a little bit differently to what we put out last time we played them, and so are they," he said.
"It's great for footy, one v two, Friday night footy - you couldn't schedule it any better.
"It was pretty clear last time we played we got beaten around the contest so that is definitely a thing we will focus on."
Podsiadly said the Crows expected their former club champion and now Geelong linchpin Patrick Dangerfield to overcome a foot injury and play on Friday night.
