Giants may play Coniglio against Tigers
Jul 17, 2017 - 6:57 PM In a bid to get their AFL season back on track Greater Western Sydney might play returning midfield star Stephen Coniglio against Richmond this weekend. In a month where they have had two draws, a loss and a win (over bottom-placed Brisbane) the Giants have dropped to third on the ladder and may roll the dice with the star onballer.
That is despite the fact Coniglio has managed just one-and-a-half games of football this season as ankle injuries have ruined his year.
Still the Giants will consider bringing him in for their Sunday afternoon showdown with the fifth-placed Tigers at the MCG.
GWS football manager Wayne Campbell told News Corp Australia that a return without a run in reserves is possible for Coniglio.
"Coniglio is a chance this week, whether that's NEAFL or AFL we're not sure," Campbell said.
"We certainly (backed Coniglio's experience) last time (to put him straight into the AFL). At that stage he'd missed six weeks, now he's played a game-and-a-half in 17 weeks, so that might count against him.
"But that's not to say he won't play. He's certainly put his hand up, which is great."
