Magpies give a new Daicos an AFL chance
Aug 17, 2017 - 9:16 AM Collingwood fans, the wait is over.Josh Daicos, the son of club legend Peter, will make his AFL debut on Saturday.
It's been 24 years since a Daicos represented the club, but Josh will take up where his father left off against Geelong at the MCG.
And it's been a long 22 rounds for fans eager to see the 18-year-old since he was taken as a father-son selection in last year's draft.
Daicos was close last week and was taken to South Australia as the travelling emergency for Collingwood's loss to Port Adelaide.
But in a nod to long-time Magpie followers, Daicos has been named on the half-forward line alongside fellow father-son recruits Darcy Moore and Callum Brown.
Moore is the son of two-time Brownlow Medal winner Peter, while Brown is the son of 1990 premiership winner Gavin.
Daicos is one of three changes for the meeting with the high-flying Cats.
Tim Broomhead and Josh Smith also come in for injured pair Alex Fasolo (shoulder) and Jordan De Goey (hip).
Tyson Goldsack will miss due to general soreness, with his partner also expected to give birth to their first child imminently.
Will Hoskin-Elliott has been included in the 22 despite hip soreness, while Daniel Wells (quad) has not featured.
Collingwood is missing senior players Scott Pendlebury, Levi Greenwood, Ben Sinclair, Travis Varcoe, Adam Oxley, De Goey and Wells for the match.
Geelong coach Chris Scott has continued his high-rotation policy with two changes.
Wylie Buzza and Mitch Duncan come in for Rhys Stanley (calf) and the dropped Brandan Parfitt.
Collingwood have won the last three games against Geelong, but Buckley said that was no guarantee of success again.
"Our recent form is great but it's not really going to count for a lot when we get to Saturday afternoon," he said.
"They're a legitimate top four team so it's a good test."
