Eskimos move to 3-0 behind Bowman's big game

Jul 12, 2014 - 5:21 AM Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Adarius Bowman caught nine passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns, as the Edmonton Eskimos kept their undefeated start to the season alive with a 27-11 triumph over the Ottawa RedBlacks at Commonwealth Stadium.

It marked the second time in three games this season that Bowman has crossed the century mark receiving for Edmonton (3-0), which kept pace with Winnipeg for first place in the Western Division and is 3-0 for the first time since 2011. Mike Reilly completed 22-of-33 passes for the home team for 256 yards and those three scores to Bowman. John White turned 15 carries into 99 yards while also adding three catches for 30 yards.

For the expansion RedBlacks (0-2), Henry Burris struggled under center, throwing for just 134 yards on 13-of-25 passing. Chevon Walker was the lone bright spot for the struggling offense, rushing for 92 yards and a major on 10 carries.

The only score of a sluggish first quarter came on a single by Edmonton off the foot of Grant Shaw.

Ottawa took the lead with under seven minutes to play in the second quarter when Walker ripped off a 65-yard touchdown run.

As time expired in the first half, Shaw missed a field goal from 36 yards away to add on another point for the Eskimos. The RedBlacks went into halftime with a 7-2 lead.

Edmonton made up for lost time early on in the third quarter, as Reilly hooked up with Bowman for a 41-yard touchdown to give it a 9-7 advantage.

The Eskimos added two more singles in the third and the RedBlacks tacked on one as well, as the game went into the fourth quarter with the score 11-8 in favor of Edmonton.

Bowman's big night continued early in the final frame, finding himself on the receiving end of a 30-yard touchdown from Reilly with an acrobatic one- handed grab, as the Eskimos extended their advantage.

After Ottawa turned the ball over on downs, Edmonton padded its lead when Reilly found Bowman yet again, this time from one yard out.

The RedBlacks cut their deficit to two scores, 25-11, after Brett Maher knocked through a 34-yard field goal with 5:36 to play.

Edmonton put an exclamation point on the victory late in the game after sacking Burris in the end zone for a safety.

Game Notes

Almondo Sewell recorded three sacks for Edmonton, giving him a CFL-best five on the season ... Fred Stamps (one catch, six yards) has gone 106 consecutive games with at least one reception ... The RedBlacks will host the Eskimos on August 15.
