Roughriders trounce RedBlacks

Aug 3, 2014 - 4:02 AM Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Will Ford ran for a pair of touchdowns and the Saskatchewan Roughriders routed the Ottawa RedBlacks, 38-14, on Saturday night.

Ford accumulated 74 yards on 20 carries, while Darian Durant completed 19- of-25 passes for 294 yards and one touchdown for the Roughriders (3-2), who have won back-to-back games on the heels of a two-game slide.

Rob Bagg had six receptions for 123 yards and Brett Swain caught five balls for 85 yards and a score in the triumph.

Henry Burris was 17-of-33 for 217 yards and two interceptions for Ottawa (1-4), which suffered its first home loss of the season.

The Roughriders raced out to a 32-0 lead, the first 24 points coming in the opening quarter.

Durant hit Swain for a 25-yard score on Saskatchewan's first drive and a Matt Carter interception of Burris led to a Chris Milo 15-yard field goal.

After Marcus Henry picked off Burris on Ottawa's ensuing possession, Will Ford plunged in from a yard out and added another 1-yard score on the Roughriders' next touch to give them a 24-0 advantage.

Brett Maher missed from 43 yards out for Ottawa at the 8:35 mark of the second and Tristan Jackson returned the boot for a touchdown and a 31-0 Saskatchewan advantage.

Ottawa finally scored on an onsides punt with less than five minutes remaining in the second. Thomas DeMarco unleashed a 73-yard rugby style punt that was recovered by Dobson Collins in the end zone.

Milo nailed a 34-yard field goal for the only points in the third quarter, which gave the Roughriders a 35-7 cushion.

Milo made a 42-yarder midway through the fourth and Thomas DeMarco's 5-yard TD pass to Jamill Smith with 6:06 left capped the scoring.

Saskatchewan outgained Ottawa 382-370 ... DeMarco was 5-of-6 for 84 yards and a score ... Collins had four receptions for 68 yards, while Smith hauled in four passes for 62 yards.
