Awesome Lynn ready to step up: Vettori

Jan 6, 2016 - 4:57 AM Former New Zealand star Dan Vettori firmly believes Chris Lynn's one-day international omission won't cost him a spot at this year's world Twenty20 tournament.

Lynn has been in sensational form for the Brisbane Heat during this summer's Big Bash League competition, belting a tournament-high 287 runs from five innings including 19 sixes.

Despite that form, the Heat skipper wasn't picked in Australia's squad for the first three of five one-day internationals against India this month.

Vettori says that omission probably has more to do with the shoulder injury which ruled Lynn out of the domestic one-day cup earlier this summer than anything else.

The Heat coach is confident Lynn - who played two T20 internationals for Australia in January 2014 - will be right in the mix when the squad for the T20 World Cup in India is picked.

"The way he's playing he's going to knock on the door and hopefully it's the Australian T20 team that's the first way in for him," Vettori said.

"I've played with Chris for a number of years now and seen his game develop.

"The thing that he's always had is a natural talent but we're seeing a real gameplan and a lot of thought going into how he takes on a game (and) a bowler.

"You've got a guy who is exceptionally talented and he's starting to really think about his game. It's an awesome package at the moment."
