Longer formats my strong point: Maxwell
Oct 21, 2016 - 1:48 AM Glenn Maxwell is well-known for his exploits in limited overs cricket but the all-rounder rates better his efforts in the game's longer formats. The Victorian is holding out hope of adding to his three Tests - all played in Asia - during upcoming home series against South Africa and Pakistan.
Maxwell headed into the one-day domestic competition off the back of a swashbuckling 145 not out in an Twenty20 match for Australia in Sri Lanka.
But his form in the 50 overs format has been up-and-down for the Bushrangers this season, averaging a touch under 29 with the bat heading into Friday's match against NSW in Sydney.
"If you look at my record, it's not hard to stay focused on that (Test cricket) at all," Maxwell told Sky Sports Radio on Friday.
"It's by far my best format. It's by far my most consistent format as well."
He averages 13.33 in his three Tests - all of which Australia lost.
Maxwell was one of the stars of Australia's World Cup win in 2015, but the 28-year-old was left out of recent one-day squads for Sri Lanka and South Africa.
He failed to record a big score in Australia A's home series against South Africa A in August, but believes a strong Sheffield Shield campaign last season could put him in the Test frame.
"I feel like I've performed really well in Shield cricket over the last few years, and even in first-class cricket when I've played in England," Maxwell said.
"It's something I'm really passionate about - getting back in to playing for Australia and wearing that baggy green."
