Inexperienced Aust XI for Pakistan warm-up
Dec 1, 2016 - 5:50 AM Cricket Australia has stuck with its inexperience policy for tour matches, selecting eight players without Sheffield Shield exposure for next week's three-day warm-up match against Pakistan in Cairns.Thursday's first day will clash with the final day of next week's Shield clashes, meaning only Arjun Nair, Will Bosisto, Mark Steketee and Cameron Valente will offer a combined 27 matches of domestic first-class experience to the 12-man squad.
Brad Hodge will coach the Cricket Australia XI side, which includes six players from the team's CA XI one-day domestic cup outfit who went winless in six matches.
However, National Cricket Centre head coach Troy Cooley said such selections were important for players as they pushed their state selection claims.
"Every member of this squad has played first class, List A or Futures League cricket in the past 12 months," Cooley said.
"It is essential we continue to challenge players coming through the Australian Cricket Pathway by exposing them to a high level of cricket and, as a result, strengthen the depth of our playing stocks right across the country."
The pink-ball fixture, beginning next Thursday, is Pakistan's only warm-up match ahead of the December 15-19 day-night Test against Australia at the Gabba.
CA XI squad: Will Bosisto (capt), Jake Carder, Alex Gregory, Josh Inglis, Ryan Lees, Arjun Nair, Jimmy Peirson, Matthew Short, Mark Steketee, Cameron Valente, Cameron Wheatley, Jake Winter
