England's Woakes out of 2nd Sth Africa ODI

May 27, 2017 - 10:11 AM England have omitted seamer Chris Woakes as a precaution for Saturday's second one-day international against South Africa, recalling Jake Ball in his place for the match in Southampton.

The switch of frontline bowlers was the only change to a winning team, with allrounder Ben Stokes declared fit after his knee injury scare, as England sought an unassailable 2-0 series lead.

Woakes had felt muscle tightness in his right leg and England decided to take no chances with him as the Champions Trophy looms next week.

On a heavily overcast morning, South Africa unsurprisingly chose to bowl first after winning the toss, having made three changes to the team who lost on Wednesday at Headingley.

Debutant spinner Keshav Maharaj, Farhaan Behardien and Dwaine Pretorius all came in, as Imran Tahir, JP Duminy and Wayne Parnell made way.

ENGLAND: Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (capt), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, Mark Wood, Jake Ball.

SOUTH AFRICA: Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers (capt), David Miller, Farhaan Behardien, Dwaine Pretorius, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Andile Phehlukwayo, Keshav Maharaj.
