England to name Ashes squad next week
Sep 22, 2017 - 9:36 AM England have confirmed they will name their squad next week for this summer's five-Test Ashes tour of Australia. The eagerly awaited announcement will take place at 10am on Wednesday at The Oval, before the fourth one-day international against West Indies.
The biggest questions in finalising Joe Root's squad concern batting personnel after mixed results for several contenders in home Test series against South Africa and the West Indies.
Speculation continues over who will partner former captain Alistair Cook to open the innings, amid ongoing uncertainty over the No.3 and No.5 positions in the batting order.
There are also injury concerns, including seamer Toby Roland-Jones who has recently had scans on his back.
England's selectors have been keen to consider late-season form before picking the squad, and the announcement will come on day two of this summer's final round of county championship matches.
The first Ashes Test begins on November 23 in Brisbane.
