Hansen keen to finish Giro despite injury

May 22, 2017 - 1:43 AM A suspected broken bone in his hand is just a flesh wound for cycling's ironman, Adam Hansen.

The Australian is determined to keep his record Grand Tour streak alive despite crashing near the end of stage 14 in the Giro d'Italia.

Hansen posted a photo on Twitter of his right hand, with bruising around the wrist.

"Nice and blue. Painful, but on the bike it's pretty good," he wrote.

The Lotto-Soudal super domestique finished stage 15 and that was followed by the Giro's last rest day, with six more stages to come in the three-week classic.

This is the Australian's 17-straight Grand Tour, stretching back to the 2011 Vuelta a Espana.

Cyclists usually only race in one or two of the three Grand Tours - the Giro, the Vuelta and the Tour de France - each season.

Hansen is highly respected as one of cycling's genuine hard men.
