Lalin scores to help Honduras beat Panama 2-0

Jun 29, 2009 - 12:31 AM CARY, N.C.(AP) -- Allan Lalin scored in the 21st minute to help Honduras beat Panama 2-0 Sunday in a friendly warmup for the Gold Cup.

Walter Martinez added a pair of assists for Honduras, currently third in World Cup qualifying from the region encompassing North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

The CONCACAF championship begins next week in the United States. Honduras starts on July 4 against Haiti in Seattle, while Panama faces Guadeloupe in Oakland, Calif., the following day.

Lalin converted Honduras' first good scoring opportunity of the match. He worked a give-and-go with Martinez near the top of the box, blasting a left-footed shot into the left side of the net to give his team a 1-0 lead.
