Zettel leads Austrian sweep in giant slalom

Dec 28, 2006 - 7:03 PM SEMMRING, Austria (Ticker) -- Kathrin Zettel led an Austrian sweep on Thursday by winning the World Cup giant slalom.

A 20-year-old who also won a giant slalom in Colorado in November, Zettel completed the Austrian team's eighth World Cup victory this season in a combined time of 2 minutes, 9.50 seconds.

Nicole Hosp finished second by 0.01 seconds, reclaiming the overall lead in the World Cup standings from Marlies Schild, who was third.

"I couldn't really think about the victory after the first leg because I knew that Schild and Hosp were both really strong," Zettel said.

Hosp, who finished fourth for the second time this season, has 540 points overall, three more than Schild.
