Schild wins fifth slalom of season, takes World Cup lead

Jan 7, 2007 - 8:19 PM KRANJSKA GORA, Slovenia (Ticker) -- Marlies Schild reclaimed the top spot in the World Cup giant slalom standings with her fifth victory of the season on Sunday.

The Austrian conquered the icy Podkoren 3 course in 1 minute, 40.96 seconds and owns a 97-point cushion over countrywoman Nicole Hosp, who finished seventh after winning on Saturday.

Winning for the fifth time in six attempts this season, Schild finished 0.66 seconds ahead of runner-up Sarka Zahrobska of the Czech Republic.

Veronika Zuzulova finished third, 0.99 seconds behind Zahrobska and just seven-hundredths of a second ahead of Tanja Poutiainen of Finland. Ana Jelusic of Croatia rounded out the top five.

Hosp owns a comfortable lead in the standings ahead of fellow Austrian Kathrin Zettel, who is in third place but trails her countrywoman by 138 points.
