Ref gets 3-match ban for obscene hand gesture

Sep 21, 2009 - 2:39 PM BERN, Switzerland(AP) -- World Cup referee Massimo Busacca has been suspended for three Swiss league games after making an obscene hand gesture to fans during a match.

The Swiss Football Association said Monday the three-match ban was imposed by its referees' commission and would start immediately.

Busacca refereed at the 2006 World Cup and is scheduled to handle matches at the 2010 tournament in South Africa. He was caught by photographers gesturing to fans of Young Boys during a Swiss Cup match Saturday.

The 40-year-old official apologized Sunday for his actions. He also worked the Champions League final last May.
