Scott, Appleby tied atop leaderboard at Houston Open

Apr 1, 2007 - 8:02 PM HUMBLE, Texas (Ticker) -- Australians Adam Scott and Stuart Appleby have surged into a tie atop the leaderboard midway through Sunday's final round of the $5.5 million Houston Open.

Scott has holed four birdies and six pars over his first 10 holes Sunday to climb to 15-under-par 205. The 26-year-old is vying for his first title since last November's Tour Championship, a victory which ended his 35-event winless drought on the PGA Tour.

Appleby fired four straight birdies starting at the par-4 third hole and also is at 15-under through 10 holes.

Hunter Mahan also holed four birdies over the first 10 holes to climb into a third-place tie at 13-under.

Both Scott and Appleby leapfrogged American Bubba Watson, who began the fourth round with a three-stroke lead but has managed eight pars and a bogey on the par-5 fifth to fall into a tie with Mahan.

First prize is $990,000.
