Ochoa wins Tournament of Champions in a rout

Nov 12, 2006 - 11:00 PM MOBILE, Alabama (Ticker) - Lorena Ochoa left no doubt who the player of the year on the LPGA Tour is.

Entering Sunday with a five-shot lead, Ochoa never gave the field any hope and cruised to a 10-shot victory at the $1 million LPGA Tournament of Champions.

A native of Mexico, Ochoa clinched LPGA Player of the Year honors with her victory here. It was her sixth win of the season and ninth of her career.

Ochoa finished at 21-under-par 267 after firing a 7-under 65. Her round included eight birdies and just one bogey.

Paula Creamer signed for a 2-under 70 and finished tied for second with Juli Inkster, who carded a 4-under 68.

Ochoa was nearly flawless on Sunday, recording four birdies on each side. She fired three consecutive birdies starting on No. 4 and rebounded from her lone bogey at the eighth with a birdie to close out her front nine.

Ochoa punctuated her dominating victory with three more consecutive birdies starting at 11 and she added her last birdie of the round at 15.
