Mi Sueno wins Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar

Aug 8, 2009 - 3:07 AM DEL MAR, Calif.(AP) -- Mi Sueno swept to the front entering the stretch and drew off to a 6 1/2-length victory in Friday's $150,000 Sorrento Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Del Mar.

Ridden by Michael Baze, Mi Sueno covered 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.40 for her first career victory after two second-place finishes at Hollywood Park this summer.

She paid $18.60, $5.20 and $3.20. Necessary Evil returned $2.80 and $2.20, while Well Deserved was another 1\\ lengths back in third and paid $3.40 to show.

Mi Sueno, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Pulpit, was purchased for $1.7 million at Keeneland's 2007 sale of weanlings by her co-breeder.

The victory, worth $90,000, increased her career earnings to $108,400.
