War Pass favorite in Breeders' Cup Juvenile

Oct 26, 2007 - 1:58 PM OCEANPORT, New Jersey (Ticker) -- War Pass has yet to be passed.

The impressive colt headlines the field for Saturday's $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Monmouth Park.

Looking to establish himself as the early favorite for the Kentucky Derby in the first week of May, War Pass has won all three of his career starts, leading wire-to-wire each time.

Despite his impressive resume, War Pass will be trying two turns for the first time at a track which traditionally favors early speed. He still has been tabbed the 5-2 morning-line favorite.

In the 1 1/16-mile race that features a field of 12, War Pass drew the second post for trainer Nick Zito. Cornelio Velasquez will ride.

Also stretching out for the first time is Tale of Ekati, who is the second choice on the morning line at odds of 7-2.

Trained by Barclay Tagg, Tale of Ekati has two wins in three career starts. Eibar Coa will be aboard the bay colt, who will break from the 10th post.

Second in the Champagne Stakes last time out at odds of 32-1, Pyro (6-1) also should be a contender. He has just one win in three career starts for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Also entered are Kodiak Kowboy (8-1), Wicked Style (10-1), Salute the Charge (12-1), Z Humor (12-1), Slew's Tiznow (15-1), Globalization (20-1), Old Man Buck (20-1), Shore Do (30-1) and Overextended (50-1).
