Oregon St. to hire Washington OC Smith as coach

    NCAAF -

Oregon State will make Washington offensive coordinator Jonathan Smith its next head coach, according to multiple reports on Wednesday.

Sports Illustrated, citing sources, reported that Smith will take over the position vacated by Gary Andersen earlier this season. Smith started at quarterback for four seasons at Oregon State from 1998-2001 and was the Fiesta Bowl MVP in 2000.

Smith followed Chris Peterson from Boise State to Washington. He leads a Huskies offense that is averaging 36.9 points during a 10-2 campaign this season after going to the College Football Playoff last January.

Smith, 38, takes over an Oregon State program that is 1-11 this season and 7-29 over the last three campaigns.
