Kent State plays fast, and that has boosted them to a Top 10 offense in all of college football. Their defense, however, has had trouble putting games away, and that has served as an Achilles’ heel all season. In fact, Kent State barely hung on for a 48-47 overtime victory against Miami Ohio last week, which ultimately punched their ticket to this MAC Championship game.
Northern Illinois isn’t much better on the defensive end. The Huskies rank 113th in total defense and Kent State checks in at 123rd. It’s no wonder these teams combined for 99 total points in their first meeting. Northern Illinois likes to move the ball on the ground, as they have the sixth-best rushing offense in the country.
Do you see where this is going? Both teams are pretty brutal on defense, and we can expect another scoring explosion from these two sides. That would be a fitting way to end the MAC season, and the ‘over’ looks very appetizing in this matchup.
