    GAME RECAP: Penguins at Islanders (04.17.24) | Carter Plays 1,321st And Final NHL Game

    For game 82 of the 23-24 season, the Pittsburgh Penguins traveled to Long Island to take on the New York Islanders. New York got on the board first with a goal from Brock Nelson. Near the end of the 1st, Rickard Rakell scored the Penguin's first goal. At the beginning of the 2nd, the Penguins went on the power play. Evgeni Malkin deflected the puck into the net to take the lead. Casey Cizikas answered to tie the game. Valtteri Puustinen responded by scoring on a breakaway. The Islanders once again tied the score before the end of the period on a shot by Kyle Palmieri. Islanders took back the lead early in the 3rd on a slap shot from Samuel Bolduc. Playing in his final game, Jeff Carter slammed a puck in on the back door for his final goal to tie the game 4-4. Carter played in 1,321 games and scored 442 with 409 assists.     Sidney Crosby scored his 42nd goal and added an assist as the Penguins preserved their playoff hopes with a win over the Predators. Erik Karlsson also had a goal and an assist for the Penguins, and Reilly Smith and Emil Bemstrom also scored. Alex Nedeljkovic made 28 saves while making his 12th straight start for Pittsburgh, which remains one point behind Washington and Detroit for the Eastern Conference's second wild card.

    GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Predators (04.15.24) | Crosby Extends Point Streak To 5 Games

    The Nashville Predators visited Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins Monday night. Pittsburgh came out firing on all cylinders. The Penguins had 20 shots on net in the 1st period. Sidney Crosby started the scoring for the Penguins. After a goal that was disallowed from Michael Bunting, Bryan Rust Passed Bunting the puck from behind the net. Still, on the power play, Bunting shot the puck on the net. It trickled through the Nashville goalie but not over the line. Laying loose in the blue paint, Crosby leaped from behind the net on the far side to wack it in. Shortly after Erik Karlsson fired a slap shot from the blue line to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead. The Penguins had a second disallowed goal by Kris Letang later in the 1st. Gustav Nyquist put Nashville on the board early in the 2nd. But minutes later Lars Eller pulled two defenders to him in the offensive zone and was still able to dish the puck to Reilly Smith in the high slot.
