Erik Karlsson also had a goal and an assist for the Penguins, and Reilly Smith and Emil Bemstrom also scored. Alex Nedeljkovic made 28 saves while making his 12th straight start for Pittsburgh, which remains one point behind Washington and Detroit for the Eastern Conference's second wild card.

Sidney Crosby started the scoring for the Penguins. After a goal that was disallowed from Michael Bunting, Bryan Rust Passed Bunting the puck from behind the net. Still, on the power play, Bunting shot the puck on the net. It trickled through the Nashville goalie but not over the line. Laying loose in the blue paint, Crosby leaped from behind the net on the far side to wack it in. Shortly after Erik Karlsson fired a slap shot from the blue line to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead. The Penguins had a second disallowed goal by Kris Letang later in the 1st. Gustav Nyquist put Nashville on the board early in the 2nd. But minutes later Lars Eller pulled two defenders to him in the offensive zone and was still able to dish the puck to Reilly Smith in the high slot.
