White Sox shut out Mariners
May 8, 2011 - 4:56 AMVideo
Floyd (4-2) scattered three hits and two walks while fanning six to earn the win, Chicago's second in its last 10 games.
"I don't think that we were ever worried about scoring runs, I think we knew it would come if we just kept what we were doing and they did," said Beckham "We started to get some hits to get some RBI when we needed to and they (runs) did (start coming). One RBI leads to two and then finally you make your way to six and that's a good game."
Rios went 4-for-4 while Beckham and Morel each had three hits to highlight a 17-hit attack, 14 coming against Doug Fister (2-4), who was charged with five runs in 5 2/3 innings for Seattle.
"We never got anything going today," said Seattle manager Eric Wedge. "We didn't do a very good job up there at all offensively. We've done a pretty good job of putting better at bats together, but today was the flip side of that, no doubt."
The Mariners had won eight of 10 coming in, but trailed immediately on Paul Konerko's two-out RBI double in the first inning.
Rios, Beckham and Morel each singled to load the bases in the fifth, and Fister hit Juan Pierre to push a run across. Adam Dunn's sacrifice fly later in the frame made it 3-0.
Again the bottom trio sparked a rally in the sixth, as Rios doubled and scored on a Beckham base hit to right. Morel followed with a double for a 5-0 game.
Mark Teahen's pinch-hit, run-scoring single in the ninth provided the game's final run, and Tony Pena closed out the shutout in the ninth.
Game Notes
Floyd, who posted his 50th career win, was pulled after 99 pitches...Ichiro Suzuki had two of Seattle's three hits...Pierre, Konerko and Dunn each finished with two hits.
