Buck helps Marlins edge Braves

Apr 15, 2011 - 4:00 AM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - John Buck's RBI single in the seventh inning was the difference as Florida clipped Atlanta, 6-5, in the finale of a three- game set at Turner Field.

Logan Morrison hit a two-run double and Gaby Sanchez homered among his two hits and scored twice for the Marlins, who took the final two contests and won for the fourth time in six games.

Brian Sanches (2-0) turned in a scoreless relief inning for the win.

"The bullpen kept doing what they've been doing since the start," Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez said of his relievers, who turned in four innings of scoreless ball. "They were just outstanding. It seems like everybody is feeling comfortable with their role. Thanks to them, we're a lot fresher than we might have been heading into the series with Philly."

Brian McCann notched a three-run homer and Dan Uggla added a solo home run for the Braves, who have dropped four of their last five.

Eric O'Flaherty (0-1) served up Buck's game-deciding hit.

Sanchez began the seventh with a one-out base hit, then Wes Helms followed with a pinch single. Buck then laced a ball up the middle to plate Sanchez for a 6-5 Florida edge.

Scott Linebrink came on and retired the next two batters to keep it a one-run game.

The Marlins stranded a runner on third in the eighth, then saw a runner thrown out trying to steal second in the ninth.

Leo Nunez worked around a leadoff single from Alex Gonzalez and retired three in a row to earn his fourth save.

Florida scored three times in the first via a Mike Stanton RBI single and a two-run double from Morrison, but Atlanta responded in the home half on Chipper Jones' run-scoring hit and a three-run shot by McCann.

Hanley Ramirez knocked in Buck with a single to tie the game in the second and Sanchez cleared the wall in left to put the Fish ahead in the third.

Uggla's solo shot in the fourth forged a 5-5 deadlock.

Marlins starter Ricky Nolasco allowed six hits and five runs over five innings with four strikeouts, while Braves hurler Brandon Beachy lasted 5 1/3 frames, charged with seven hits and five runs. He fanned eight with four walks.

"I definitely learned these last two starts, something that's already known, that I don't start the quickest," Beachy admitted. "It takes me an inning or two to get going. When I can settle down, I know it's going to be a good day. I need to have pitches, especially my breaking ball there from the first inning."
