Uribe, Garland lead Dodgers over Braves

Apr 21, 2011 - 6:24 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Juan Uribe hit three singles and knocked in four runs to lead the Dodgers over the Braves, 6-1, in the third contest of a four-game series.

Jon Garland (1-1) tossed the 11th complete game of his career allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four for the Dodgers, who have won three of their last four.

Derek Lowe (2-3) took the loss, lasting only three innings where he allowed five runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out five for the Braves, who have lost three of their last four.

"I threw way too many non-competitive pitches. I threw 80 pitches in three innings. Walking the pitcher with one out led to disaster," said Lowe.

The game capped a big day of news for the Dodgers. It was announced earlier Wednesday that Major League Baseball would be taking over all aspects of the business and day-to-day operation of the team.

In a statement issued Wednesday, MLB commissioner Bud Selig said the league owes it to Dodgers fans to ensure the team is being operated properly and will appoint a representative to oversee the club.

The move came several days after a report by the Los Angeles Times said Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, struggling to make payroll, received a $30 million loan from Fox to cover expenses.

The Dodgers scored five times over the first two innings. Uribe singled to score Casey Blake and Andre Ethier in the first. Blake singled and was moved to third on Ethier's ground-rule double to set up LA's early two-run lead.

The Dodgers added three more runs in the next inning when Ethier singled to score Garland. Uribe's two-run single scored Blake and Ethier after an infield single by Matt Kemp loaded the bases to make the score 5-0.

Nate McLouth doubled to lead off the third for Atlanta and moved to third on a bunt by Lowe before being knocked in by a Martin Prado sacrifice fly to put the Braves on the board.

Ethier, who added a home run in the fourth, finished a triple shy of the cycle.

"That's part of what they ask me to do, get hits," said Ethier. "If I can get a hit a day I'm doing my job."

Game Notes

Ethier has a major league-leading 17-game hit streak...Ethier's home run in the fourth was the 100th of his career...Garland threw 73 of his 108 pitches for strikes.
